THE BESPOKE PROCESS

Create a custom jewellery piece with Ashley Mikal

During the initial consultation Ashley will learn more about the purpose of the piece, your objectives and design inspirations as well as budget and timeline.

Ashley will work with her trusted gemstone suppliers to hand select an assortment of gemstones that would work beautifully for your piece. A presentation will be created with designs based around the selected gemstones for you to choose from. Occasionally clients will wish to mix-and-match details from the designs; a second design presentation can be provided with a narrowing down of two to three designs. A second consultation will commence where all details of the design are finalised for production.

Technical drawings will be provided that demonstrate every detail and angle of the design. Depending on if your piece is best suited to be designed by CAD, the design will be 3D printed in wax upon approval and you will get to see the jewellery as a tangible, scaled prototype before going to casting. Once approved, the piece will be cast, cleaned, set and polished by Ashley’s amazing team of master craftsmen before being hallmarked, packaged and shipped to you. This process generally takes between six and eight weeks according to the complexity of the piece but if you are working with a tighter timeline we can certainly work to accommodate you.

Jewellery, like all art, is a universal language. While designing, I like to think about how someone may express themselves while wearing my jewellery; what each piece says to them and says about them. Self expression, and the freedom to be able to self express, is incredibly powerful and liberating. I want to design pieces that elicit an emotional response; each piece is created to celebrate the wearer and to become an intricate part of their personal story. — A.M.

HEIRLOOM REMODELS

Redesign a custom jewellery piece with Ashley Mikal

A gorgeous part of creating fine jewellery is knowing that each and every part of the piece is recyclable. Ashley loves to redesign jewellery and does so with care and respect for the story that the piece carries. A key part of her process is understanding what aspects of the piece are sentimental to the wearer; she is able to re-use both the gemstones and the metal in most cases to create a new piece that carries the story forward for generations to come. Many of the pieces in the gallery below are remodels; please contact us to find out more.
